Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about BrightKids — from enrollment and daily routines to safety and snacks.
Enrollment
What age groups do you accept?
We welcome children from 18 months to 6 years old. Our programs are divided into three age-based groups: Toddlers (18 months – 2.5 years), Preschool (2.5 – 4 years), and Pre-Kindergarten (4 – 6 years). Each group follows a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to their unique stage of growth.
How does the enrollment process work?
Enrollment is simple and family-friendly! Start by booking a tour through our website or calling us directly. After your visit, you'll complete a registration form, submit your child's medical records, and pay a one-time registration fee. Once everything is in order, we'll confirm your start date and send a welcome packet with everything you need to know.
Is there a waitlist?
During peak enrollment periods, some age groups may have a short waitlist. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend booking a tour early. Even if a spot isn't immediately available, we'll keep you updated and work to accommodate your family as soon as possible.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
Yes! We understand every family has different needs. We offer full-time (5 days/week), part-time (3 days/week), and half-day options. Let's chat about what works best for your schedule, and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Daily Routine
What does a typical day look like?
Each day is a balance of structured activities and free play. A typical schedule includes morning circle time, themed learning stations (arts, literacy, sensory play), outdoor exploration, lunch, quiet/nap time, music & movement, and afternoon group activities. We're flexible and follow children's cues while maintaining a comforting rhythm.
What about nap or quiet time?
Absolutely. Younger children have a scheduled nap after lunch. For older ones who may not nap, we offer a calm quiet time with soft music, puzzles, and books. Every child gets the rest they need — our cozy nap room has individual mats and gentle supervision.
How much outdoor time do children get?
We believe in fresh air and movement! Children enjoy at least 60-90 minutes of outdoor play daily (weather permitting), split between morning and afternoon. Our secure outdoor area includes a garden, climbing structures, sandpit, and open space for running and group games.
Safety & Health
What safety measures are in place?
Safety is our top priority. We have a secure entry system with controlled access, CCTV monitoring in common areas, fenced outdoor play zones, and all staff are certified in pediatric first aid and CPR. We run regular emergency drills and maintain low child-to-teacher ratios to ensure close supervision at all times.
What is your illness policy?
To protect all children and staff, we ask that sick children stay home and be symptom-free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning. This includes fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious conditions. If a child becomes ill during the day, we'll contact you immediately and provide a comfortable isolation area until pickup.
How do you handle allergies and medications?
We take allergies very seriously. During enrollment, we document all known allergies and create an individual care plan. Our staff are trained to recognize allergic reactions and administer emergency medication if needed. We are a nut-aware facility and work closely with families to manage any dietary restrictions.
Programs & Curriculum
What curriculum do you follow?
Our play-based curriculum is inspired by Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches, blending child-led exploration with gentle teacher guidance. We focus on the whole child — social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development — through hands-on activities, storytelling, creative arts, music, and outdoor discovery.
Do you offer any special programs or extracurriculars?
Yes! In addition to our core program, we offer optional enrichment activities like yoga for kids, mini gardening club, and seasonal workshops (puppet theater, holiday crafts). These are included in tuition and rotate throughout the year to keep things fresh and exciting.
How do you prepare children for elementary school?
Our Pre-K program includes school readiness skills woven into playful activities — early literacy, number sense, following multi-step instructions, and social-emotional skills like sharing and conflict resolution. By the time children graduate from BrightKids, they're confident, curious, and ready for the next big adventure.
Practical Information
What meals and snacks do you provide?
We provide a healthy morning snack, a balanced lunch, and an afternoon snack — all prepared fresh in our kitchen. Our menu rotates weekly and includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. We're happy to accommodate dietary needs (vegetarian, halal, allergies) with advance notice.
What should I pack for my child?
Pack a labeled water bottle, a change of clothes (accidents happen!), weather-appropriate outdoor gear (hat, jacket, sunscreen), and any comfort items like a small blanket for nap time. For children still in diapers, please supply a full day's worth of diapers and wipes.
How do you communicate with parents?
We use a secure parent app for daily updates — you'll get photos, meal logs, nap times, and little stories from your child's day. We also send weekly newsletters, hold parent-teacher conferences twice a year, and our door is always open for a chat at drop-off or pickup.
What are your operating hours and holiday schedule?
We're open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. We follow a standard academic calendar with closures on major public holidays, one week for spring break, and two weeks during winter holidays. We also offer optional holiday camps during some breaks — ask us for the current year's calendar.
